The Story

Why We’re Raffling a Bus

Sometimes in the North Country an issue becomes personal, and the community rallies. When Leah Sperbeck and Ed Shanshala learned of a serious cancer diagnosis in their family, friends and neighbors came together to help.

Ed, CEO of Ammonoosuc Community Health Services, and Leah, a registered nurse, have donated their 1970 VW Dormobile Camper Bus to be raffled off. The vintage vehicle is valued at $31,250. Only 250 tickets will be sold at $100 each.

North Country Community Radio is the sponsoring nonprofit and will handle the raffle’s operations. NCCR and The Loading Dock will each receive a share of the proceeds. The majority will go directly to Leah’s cancer treatment.

Tickets go on sale Friday, September 4 at 6 pm during First Friday Arts: Fall on Main Street in Littleton. The winning ticket will be drawn Friday, October 2 at 6 pm in front of NCCR on Main Street. Throughout September the bus will be on display downtown.

Tickets are available online right here, and in person at North Country Community Radio and The Loading Dock in Littleton, Rosa Flamingos and Rek-Lis in Bethlehem, and The Dutch Treat in Franconia.

When the community comes together, we all win.
